Young people play an important role in the sustainability of communities in rural areas, particularly in the agriculture sector and food security. Despite their crucial role and contribution, the migration of young people remains one of the greatest challenges and a key risk to the sustainability of the agriculture and rural development sector. This exodus of youth from rural areas is closely related to the numerous challenges and limitations they face within their communities.
For the first time, more than 100 young people from various rural communities of Albania gathered at the First National Assembly of Young People in Rural Areas, held within the framework of the third Albanian Rural Parliament from October 11 to 13, 2023. This Assembly examined the various realities in which young people in rural areas find themselves, focusing particularly on their challenges, needs, aspirations, and dreams for the future.
We are enthusiastic to share with you the Declaration of the First Assembly of Young People in Rural Areas – the main outcome of this Assembly. This declaration is a call to reignite the desire of young people to stay and invest in rural areas. We, at Rural Youth Hub, are committed to continuing to play an active role and contribute to rural and agriculture processes, aiming to align them closely with the concerns, interests, and priorities of young people.
We encourage you to read the Declaration and reflect on ways to utilize it, contributing to the well-being of young people in rural areas Declaration-RYH-eng
