The project “Empowerment of women in rural areas and tourism” aims to contribute to the improvement of the economic situation of girls and women in rural areas in the municipalities of Elbasan and Kolonje.
Project objectives:
- Providing support to municipalities to prioritize and support women’s businesses in rural areas, rural tourism and the development of the chain of value by promoting an enabling environment to strengthen women’s economic empowerment, their access to and control over productive assets.
- Capacity building for women and women’s groups engaged by the project in entrepreneurship, starting a business, business registration, access to finance, marketing, management and other related topics.
- Promotion of media messages about the contribution of rural women to the economic and social life in Albania and the promotion of women who run businesses.
The project will be implemented for a period of 16 months and the approach that will be followed in support of the economic and social empowerment of rural women, will be in accordance with the legal framework in place, enabling the formalization of Local Action Groups based on European best practices in implementing the Leader approach. The successful implementation of LEADER, Community-led Local Development and sustainable rural development, depends on creating among rural stakeholders some understanding of sustainable rural development and the principles underlying the LEADER approach.
The project “Empowerment of women in rural areas and tourism” is implemented by the Albanian Network for Rural Development within the framework of the Gender Rural Equality and Tourism (GREAT) project, financed by the Italian Government and implemented by UN Women Albania and FAO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
